Rabbi Roberts is out walking by Chickahominy Lake early one morning and hears cries for help.
He sees and hears Ruth, an elderly lady from his congregation, calling for help and wringing her hands as her small dog has jumped into the water chasing a duck, and is now trapped in weeds and drowning.
[Clearly not a Bichon. Ducks come to US on a plate, we don't chase THEM!
Unless they are in our pool!
Heroically, Rabbi Roberts wades into Chickahominy Lake Lake and emerges, dripping, with the small dog.
'Oh thank you, thank you,' cries Ruth. 'Are you a vet?'
'A vet, vet?' responds Rabbi Roberts, 'I am not just vet, am soaking.'

'I'm not going.'
'Why not?' Miriam demands.

Miriam replies in an exasperated voice, 'I'll give you two good reasons why you must go to the synagogue. 'One, you're 54 years old, and two, you're the Rabbi.'
