did YOU know?

That this product is available? It is a great alternative that is safe and kind to all, four leggeds, two leggeds and plants and things, even!

Most ice melt products contain either sodium chloride or calcium chloride. Both sodium and calcium chloride can irritate a dog's paws or be harmful to the animal if ingested. Seriously folks, everyone should stop using the toxic stuff! it is seriously toxic!

Thank you to my uncle Phil for sending me this.  yup, you too can get some at Home Depot.
Now stop poisoning everything and make the safe switch.

This is an order!

FDA NOTICE on HARTZ

Recall -- Firm Press Release

FDA posts press releases and other notices of recalls and market withdrawals from the firms involved as a service to consumers, the media, and other interested parties. FDA does not endorse either the product or the company.

The Hartz Mountain Corporation is voluntarily withdrawing its Hartz ® Chicken Chews ™ and Hartz ® Oinkies® Pig Skin Twists wrapped with Chicken for dogs

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - January 25, 2013 — The Hartz Mountain Corporation is voluntarily withdrawing its Hartz Chicken Chews and Hartz Oinkies Pig Skin Twists wrapped with Chicken for dogs in the United States because they contain trace amounts of unapproved antibiotic residue.
We are taking this action after recent Hartz testing found trace amounts of unapproved antibiotic residue in samples of Hartz® Chicken Chews™ and Oinkies® Pig Skin Twists wrapped with Chicken products. Even though two-thirds of the products we tested did not contain antibiotic residues, we would rather be overly cautious by voluntarily withdrawing these products from the market.
These antibiotics are approved for use in poultry in China and other countries, including European Union member states, but are not among those approved in the U.S. Based on the FDA’s review of the New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets (NYSDAM) results, there is no evidence that raises health concerns, and these results are highly unlikely to be related to the reports of illnesses FDA has received related to jerky pet treats.
Immediately upon learning of this finding, Hartz contacted the FDA to share our test results and execute a nationwide voluntary withdrawal. There have been no known illnesses to date associated with the consumption of these products.
“Upon learning about the nationwide voluntary withdrawal of several other brands of chicken jerky products through media reports, Hartz acted immediately to begin additional testing to determine if the same unapproved antibiotic residues were present in our products,” said Sean McNear, Sr. Director of Quality and Regulatory at Hartz Mountain.
There is no indication that the trace amounts of unapproved antibiotic residue are linked to the FDA's ongoing investigation of chicken jerky products produced in China. The trace amounts of antibiotic residue do not pose a health or pet safety risk.
No other Hartz products are affected by this withdrawal.
If you have these products contact the Hartz Consumer Affairs team (24 hours/day 7 days/week) at 1-800-275-1414 for a refund.

Tasty Tuesday: easy, safe, SPELT bicuits

Spelt it right- Biscuits!

2-1/4 cups sprouted spelt flour (cannot be warm from grinding or will melt the coconut oil)
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon sea salt
6 tablespoons unrefined, virgin coconut oil, chilled if liquefied at room temp (like during the summer)
3/4 cup milk, coconut milk, or nut milk or yogurt (or even water)
1 tablespoon raw apple cider vinegar (or lemon juice)

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder and sea salt.
Add the coconut oil, then cut it into the flour using a pastry cutter or a fork, until the pieces of oil are the size of peas or smaller.
Add the milk (or water) and vinegar. Mix lightly with a wooden spoon to barely combine the ingredients. Don’t overmix!
Transfer the dough to a clean, floured surface [we use corn starch to dust our cutting board] and roll into a rectangle about 1/2″ thick. Using a biscuit cutter or a knife or pizza cutter, cut into 2″ squares.
Transfer squares to parchment on a cookie sheet, leaving space between.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until golden brown. Transfer to drying rack. Eat!

I know this sounds weird... but we like them hard and dry, so we make momma leave them out to "harden up". So we are weird. But fresh from the oven they are delish with honey!

Born to be WILD????

Is that safe? 'vie

Maybe he was bored, like I am now?

Is there a lake around here? 'vie

Monday Mischief? Hardly!

Alfie's Blog

This snow stuff is really putting a crimp on my style!

Rolling yourself on carpeting is just not that much fun.
And I am bored. Momma says that there are NO refills for the puzzles because we worked them to death...
And I really want to go to the boardwalk, but it is too cold.
Oh how I miss sniffing the weird stuff on the beach!

Momma, want to play Gordon Ramsey?  You cook and  bake and I eat it all and call it rubbish?

Nooooo, I am not saying that!  Gordon Ramsey says that!

Ok, Let's play Rachel Ray, I know it's a quick game, only thirty minutes, wait, I got it!  Let's play Paula Deen and schmear butter everywhere and taste everything!!!!  I love her.

Again with the no?  Do you know any other word?

Well, I am out of ideas, what game do you want to play? I could play chase the sucker upper, but that thing is loud. I am just going to play toss 'em with my upstairs toy box.

I love making it rain toys from the balcony! No, you cannot say no to that!  Mommmmmmmma.
Boredom kills everything, even germs.  Do you want me dead from boredom?

hm?
