Hills PET food WITHDRAWAL

Many PetSmart stores have  posted notices on store shelves of a "Hill Pet food withdrawal".

Hills Food has remained silent on the matter and of course, savvy pet parents have to wonder why.

Avoiding FDA mandated recalls has become the way the pet food industry tries to negate BAD PRESS... but that can also be said about negating  liability, culpability and responsibility .

The PetSmart notices seem to be the only information provided to consumer.

NOT a smart move.

Well folks, they simply "forgot" this is the age of computers and communication is not as difficult as it used to be,

SHAME ON HILLS.

What is a "withdrawal"?

The FDA defines a voluntary market withdrawal as:

Market withdrawal: occurs when a product has a minor violation that would not be subject to FDA legal action. The firm removes the product from the market or corrects the violation. For example, a product removed from the market due to tampering, without evidence of manufacturing or distribution problems, would be a market withdrawal.

Numerous sources have stated “product mislabeling” as the reason for the withdrawal, though this information has not been confirmed or denied by Hill’s Pet Nutrition, who have remained quiet about the product withdrawal, despite numerous questions posed to them by concerned customers.

If you currently have ANY of the products listed above, it is recommended that you return to the place of purchase, as the reason for the product withdrawal is yet unknown.

Hill’s has asserted that their food is safe to feed as directed, and has offered NO EXPLANATION as to why these products were withdrawn.

Priorities

It is morning. I am quietly waiting and waiting and waiting for momma to get my breakfast ready.

Apparently putzing and futzing is more important than me. Can you believe that?

Why can't hoomans stick to a predictable routine?  I need my morning 'pucino foam, my breakfast and my morning belly rubs. So, why is she doing Dog knows what?? instead???

Sigh. So I sit and wait.

Hi Dowi!!!! Did not hear you come in. I was waiting for momma and my breakfast.

She is futzing, I don't know what she is doing, but I have not even had my morning foam yet.  

Can you believe it????Maybe you can talk some sense into momma????

Maybe you can talk to the woman?

I am sitting pretty and she walked by like 10 times and never even noticed my pretty poses or my pink belly.

I think this is how neglect starts, no?

I would so appreciate it if you could have a chat with her. Re align her priorities, please.

MAX... the story of a trauma...

When Max heard that horrid word. The B word... that hated four letter word that is the nemesis of all dogs everywhere...

Don't play dumb with me.  You know THE word.  Fine. Gonna make me say it?   BATH. There are you happy? I said it.

The hoomans who have barely a sense of smell said Max "smelled". How could even say that as if they could even tell!

Max was NOT happy.... Look for yourself...

He heard it- THE B word.He decided to just hide...

[Ya know.. that magnificent tail did him in... I mean how can you even logistically hide such plummage????]

It was horrible. The hiding place failed him.... He got a ... Bath.... UGH.

 Resistance was FUTILE.... Max needs a better hiding place...

And there is a cold soggy doggy post bath.

But he did get even sort of. We call it justifiable post bath rage out. Max tossed every pillow in the apartment and even the cushions off the couch.

What?  I said it is justifiable post bath rage out.

Now you go pick everything up while Max calms himself down, hoooman.... how did that bath work out for you??? You prefer the stench of soap to the Max smell... well do you????

JD- yard, patio, gazebo. NOTHING gets past him and he is on a fist name basis with the tailed rats you call squirrels.  He brokered the famous co existence treaty of 2001. We ignore them, they ignore us, we both hate ducks. DONE.

Wendy- Upstairs, back of the closets and under the chairs.  She sounds the alarm if anything approaches the steps. She has barking stamina. Can go at it for days....

Cosmo....He is still in the learning phase. From a deep sleep, his eyes pop open "Is that noise something?????"

Moi.  I guard major assets. Momma is a major asset.  I am a specialist at letting her think she is getting loved while in fact I am making sure she is ok.

See? I am hard at work and she is thinking I am just into snuggle!

Cosmo, waiting for cue to join in a full bark alarm.  Momma asked him if daddy is home. Soon he will be taking over downstairs duty so I can focus on the hoomans, full time.

And you thought we were just cute fluffies!... Duh.....This is serious stuff!

Life, things... and finally some good news! Happy dancing!

"Slowly emerging from the shock of this last week and learning to live with new realities." that is how momma has described the last few days. Totally inaccurate. 

A better description would be "Sad, sadder, saddest". We have been taking turns being at her side at all times, and I mean at all times. IT is a job!.  One- she does not sit still,  Two- she is all over the place, three- she talks to herself, a lot. And then there is that question that she asks forty times a day..."What am I doing here?  What was I doing?"   Seriously.  Why ask us?  She is the one doing! ANYWAY. The distractions from her mood have been unpleasant...funerals, losses, helplessness...and then the stooopid stuff like the dishwasher  that threw up... lots of water. AGAIN! Momma was livid to say the least. They are supposedly working on that... Aha. 

I have been "distracted" by a new thing I have observed. So, see if you can give me some sort of insight.  Momma has been painting her nails... For as long as I can recall, momma wore a demure French manicure. Timeless, Elegant. Nice.  All of a sudden... without notice... her nails were purple... then really dark purple, then black.... then dark dark gray... then mauve... now bloody red. What the hey???? Mind you I have smelled them all. They all smell the same. And yes, no taste, save for chemical  yuck.  So... what is going on?  Why does momma suddenly go weird on us? Is this normal for two leggeds? Is it some sort of vague attempt at cheering up?

For sure the new colors have not helped her memory. She tried to put a belly band on Wendy! Yuh, That did not play well.  We were actually considering calling the hooman siblings to discuss momma's weirdness and lack of smiles, when she got a -phone call. 

And just like that. We saw "the smile"  She smiled!!! Erik has a home!  He is going to live with auntie Maryann, Frannie's mom. Frannie crossed over the rainbow Bridge a little while ago. She left a huge empty space in her momma's heart. Erik's human momma also crossed over. He has been sad and grieving. Obviously this was a match that was meant to be!  And because humans have NO LOGIC... momma cried at that happy news.

All I can say ...calling Mr Spock, we need a mind meld, this woman is coming apart at her emotional seams.

Erik and Auntie Maryann, I love you both and I AM GRATEFUL YOU HAVE EACH OTHER!

Monday Mission Impossible: focusing on the important stuff

So.... the momma has been  lazy  BUSY.  Very  lazy  BUSY. [She is watching me, so I have to edit
"correctly". Ok OK , the truth is she has been crazy busy. But I am kind of getting tired of her busy schedule. I mean I really hate boxes.  She has been unpacking and now that the reno downstairs is done, she thinks putting stuff away and hanging stuff and cleaning stuff is important.  Not to me it is not. Oh, ok. Yes I do like my pillows and beds and stuff put back.


I see her point now.

BUT... this "breather" as she calls it it only temporary because she will be messing up upstairs.

Hoomans. Why can't they get that the most important thing is to spend quality time getting belly rubs and snuggling?

I got her to sit and watch the sunset. Awesome no?

And as she sat there rubbing my belly, watching this magnificent display... the woman said... and I quote...

"This reminds me,  "I have to re do the linen closet downstairs".

Huh? Why and how  does this remind her of that????

I give up.

Throw back TUESDAY

Dear Cosmo,

are you ready for what's coming?

You are new here. And I feel I  should get you ready. THE season is starting. THE season.

We will be shopping, we will be out a LOT...  This is a glimpse of what's coming.

You need to get emotionally ready. The momma is into the whole HOLIDAY bit.

Brace yourself boy. Get over your drama in parking lots because you will be seeing a lot of them.

But there is also good news. Lots of baking and foods... hmmm chopped livah..., but you need to be prepared.

I am just saying... The Wendy will be taking the lead in the cart.  I suppose we will be doing two carts now. No matter, I prefer to ride the lower level, by myself.
