New tenants. I guess

In the purple crepe myrtle, just over the pool steps, by the rail, we have new tenants. The nest is deep inside the tree, shaded by the leaves and beautifully sited by the grape arbor. [No momma, no grapes for you this year, but the birds thank you for having gotten rid of that pesky bushy tailed rat] Now, these are birds, I think. NOT chickens. But what kind? All I know is that there are two of them in a nest and it looks crowded.

Momma says they are mourning doves! "Mourning Doves are the most frequently hunted species in North America" Hunted??? No way! Well guys I grant you asylum! You are safe.
WE RESCUE!!! So, carry on!

Now watching momma climb on the bench to get this picture was funny. Watching her climb down was even funnier. Picture momma wet, in her bathing suit balancing her camera and snapping pictures. Hahahahaha. But at least I am validated, there is something in that tree! I told them!

Momma, please put out some millet and water for Mr and Mrs Dove, please? {Do they own a soap company or something?}

Just asking....

your birds are pretty. my mama says we also have doves nearby but she thinks ours are different from the ones you have. Mama says the only problem with our doves is that they wake up about 3:30 in the morning to sing to one another. mama has started wearing ear plugs again when she sleeps. hopefully your doves are a bit more considerate.

Our bedrooms are upstairs and face the opposite side of the house, so we are lucky! But they do coo, a lot.

We Love Morning Doves! A couple of years ago we had a pair that had 4 sets of babies in the planter on the deck, it was very cute. The Mommy and Daddy actually feed their babies pigeon milk. They actually trusted us so much, they let us bring the planter in the house with them and their babies when we had a really bad thunderstorm.

At least your birds were CUTE 'Vie and there was only two of them! We've got about 40 tiny brown dirt coloured birds. If ours were pretty purple, I *might* consider not eating them.
