Post "salon"

I got fluffed, washed, trimmed, buffed, plucked, primped... all this because some hooman who shall go nameless  [momma] thought I needed it.  Seriously?

I am so clean and white I think I am going to change my name to SNOWHITE.  Wait... they hate snow around here. Better not do that.  All my family wants to do with snow is MELT it and make it gone...  I am not going anywhere...

So... now that I am all prettied up, how about I get some holding and belly rubbing.  I need it. And I smell delicious. Take my woof for it.

Rest In Peace RU

Dearest RU,

My most favorite honorary "bichon". Yesterday, I knew something was wrong because momma became very silent  on the phone and had leaky eyes. Then she told us that you had crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She said your crossing was peaceful, you were in your daddy's arms. You crossed as you had lived. Surrounded with love and peace.

I am sure you are running around meeting Buddy, Kody, Rudy .. catching up, comparing notes. You are going to busy visiting all the other four leggeds that you knew and I am sure that the TBFR family has welcomed you on the other side as well.

I know you are worried about your mom and dad. Wynn has a big job ahead of him. Comforting them. I want you to know that we are all going to pitch in.  Right now, your momma's heart is broken.  Your daddy misses you so much and he is grieving.  After you settle in, you know you have to visit your momma's dreams. You and I know what needs to happen to heal her broken heart.

With due time.

Until then, my dearest RU...my most favorite Maltese named after Radford University, know that you will never be forgotten and that we thank you for being the very best dog you could be. You gave your family, love, companionship, affection, much joy and laughter. Ten pounds of RU filled ten million empty spaces.... amazing.  Thank you for the memories.  We will continue to miss you.

'vie and family. Proud to have known you.

Tasty Tuesday: Revisiting ASPIC, bone soup and common sense.

silvieon4: Tasty Tuesday Lamb ASPIC
Mar 05, 2013
Also, gelatin is fat free and cholesterol free." http://canine-epilepsy-guardian-angels.com/gelatin.htm. OUR take on jello... is LAMB aspic. Why LAMB? Because JD is beef and chicken intolerant and lamb is a very safe protein!

Aug 21, 2012
Tasteeeee Tusday: ASPIC Well, you know I had a case of the nasty cough. I even got stuck at my vet's office. And a stick there is NOT a fun stick. But I am all better. Yes, my vet can think his shot fixed me. But we know the truth.

Yes, we do love our aspic and it is absolutely delicious and handy!  One step beyond Aspic is BONE SOUP.

http://homemadedogfood.com/how-to-make-chicken-bone-stock/ and if your four legged does well on chicken, then this is something I would try.

The common sense approach to feeding your four legged is very much like feeding your child.

Silvieon4: What does that mean??? I AM YOUR CHILD!

1. Know your dog's particular needs and limitations.  That means, allergies, medical conditions, age, weight, etc. DO take all that into consideration when making up their meals. IT IS COMMON SENSE!

2. Know and understand their likes and dislikes.  Introduce new things slowly.

3. Do talk to your vet and do your homework!

4. Diets should not be STATIC. They need to have variety and be responsive to the needs of the individual dog. So 50 batches of stuff aging in the freezer is NOT ideal...

5. Stop stressing.  If you managed to feed yourself, your family and everyone survived, YOU CAN feed your four legged!

6. Have a good kitchen supervisor on hand to inspire you.

Silvieon4: "Inspire???? Ph leeeeease... I am a certified taste taster, don't misapply my talents!...What do you mean I am in dire need of grooming??? Thursday???? THIS THURSDAY????? WHY???? I like my fluff!- well now I am depressed, what me to taste anything before I go hide?

Quick, momma, LET ME IN!

Mommmmmmmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, quick let me in.  The Silvie and JD are busy. This is my chance to go dig up whatever they buried and clean up. Yea I said clean up.  Come on, somebody with thumbs open the door so I have time to do my search and seizure. I do believe in one of my past lives I was an ATF agent.
ATF, noooo not a Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms... who cares about that stuff?  ATF is ALL TREATS & FOOD.  The important stuff.

JD has a habit tucking things into daddy's chair. That's an easy search.  But the Silvieon4 is a master and burying things. I mean the girl is good. Creative one might say.  She hides things in plain sight.

Nonnnnnnnaaaaaa, moooooooooommmmmmmaaaaa, dadddddddddyyyyy I need to get inside ASAP.

I must take full advantage of my opportunities.

The Wendy.

[ Momma's note....The Wendy did get in and she did conduct a full search and seizure of one tiny piece of turkey jerky] and she deeply resents the vacuum cleaner. It seems to beat her to the task.]

"White Dog Crazy lady" and JAX

Well well.  Now we know the TRUTH. Our neighbors think of momma as the "WHITE DOG CRAZY LADY". And here comes the truth part.... MOMMA IS ENTIRELY TOO COMFORTABLE  hiding behind that label, because as she asserts, it gives her complete license to say and do stuff that most people with manners would hesitate doing. I have caught her smiling at herself, smug and delighted in her status.

What am I talking about??? Mhhh. Let me tell you what happened yesterday.

Lots of crazy stuff happening at our house.  IN between the comings and goings, the front door bell rang and a lady holding a Bichon started telling momma that one of us got out and that she almost hit the fluffy thing with her car.  Momma pointed to the three of us who were intent on barking our heads off, and said, no... Mine are here, present and accounted for.  Never mind that we had been in a car on a ride most of the morning...hardly running loose anywhere....

But momma, of course, took a good look at the Bichon the lady was holding and instantly said, "JAX! What are you doing without your momma".... Yes, my momma has some kind of deficit.  She recognizes dogs, not people. Really.... In fact, she first met Jax's momma solely because she used to be Regan's momma and of course, my momma recognized Regan.... from the Tidewater Bichon Frise Rescue calendar. I have to tell you, it gets dicey when we are somewhere and people talk to us and momma has to ask who their dog is before she can "connect the dots".  And the oddest thing happens, she will remember every single detail of the dog and nada, zip, zilch about the hooman. What can I say?

This is handsome JAX and in momma's words.... "How could you NOT KNOW who he is!"
For the record, Jax had lost his tag, but was wearing a fine collar.

But back to yesterday. Momma buddinsky, immediately took possession of Jax, thanked and assured the lady that she would take care of him and return him to his family. Then the sneaky momma, gave Jax lots of talking, belly rubbing, nose kisses, water, treats... and calmed him down.  Jax has been at our house before, so he was familiar with everything  and everyone... specially Wendy who has a crush on him because he is a tall guy and she loves tall guys..

Long story short, after a couple of phone calls to reassure, Jax's momma that he was ok, momma drove Jax back to his house and waited for Jax's momma's return [she was at work] while JAX on a treat... [Yea, with me she is stingy, but she plays generous with other dogs....we have to address that  issue soon...]

Now picture Momma Buddinsky perfectly content watching Jax and waiting and she hears some lady screaming at a poor bulldog to go walking. Scream, yank at her leash and more scream. Buddinsky opens the car window and tells the woman... "If you screamed at me like that I would not follow you out of h--- Try talking to her like this... honey, would you like to go for a walk? [sweet voice, low tone.... Oh MY WOOF... I recognize that tone! She uses it with me! Is she manipulating me????] The woman was so startled she parroted momma and voila` her doggie went walking with her tail up and wagging.

I told you... "White Dog Crazy  lady"  is not a label... it is a shield of empowerment... Ask pet stores staff.... "White Dog Crazy  lady" removes items from shelves and returns them to customer service with a long lecture on toxic crap.... "White Dog Crazy  lady" yells at people who put spike collars on tiny puppies... "White Dog Crazy  lady" does not put up with much stupidity.  So if you are going to do something stupid to your dog... make sure  "White Dog Crazy  lady" is not around, because you will be sorry and in need of therapy. Daddy gets mortified. But he does say she is right. So there.

Oh there are stories I could share... but no, I can't.  This is a family blog and momma gets really riled up...and "colorful".  But hey, in the end I love my  "White Dog Crazy  lady". And Jax, nice to see you, next time bring your hooman who is busy today replacing your tags and getting a fence put up. Your days of bonking around are over my dear Jax...

LOVE YOUR PET DAY... She does LOVE me!!!!!

So, this morning  I woofed momma into showing me some love. Yea, I know, food is NOT love, but hey I will use ANYTHING to get something delicious. I generally find guilt to be a very useful tool with two leggeds, and occasionally shame works too. But today I used common sense.  Who knew, right? It works!

The latest studies suggest that lack of variety in a four legged's diet contributes to the development of allergies, so in an effort to expand our menu options, I gently reminded momma to make some new treats.

Ehmmm something that HAS NEVER BEEN RECALLED, something safe,,, Something healthy...

Here is how she did it. {She followed the recipe- EVEN! }

Here is the parmiggiano. I tried so hard to talk her into dropping a cube or two... but noooooo she put the whole thing into the food processor and turned into  this!

Then she mixed the flours and egg and water with some of the parmiggiano in the same food processor

And she created this dough, which smelled delicious... and I saw her taste it... she is weird. But she has this rule that nothing goes into our mouth that can't go into hers.  So... once she was satisfied that it was delicious...

She rolled out the dough, sprinkled it with more magic parmiggiano....[yea it is, MAGIC, take my woof for it!]

cut it with little heart cookie cutters and then prepared it for "baking" in dehydrator.

She even made some stick like things  out of it for Cooper CAT.  And at the end of the baking time, VOILA`!!!!

I am getting excited. I want one to taste now. What do you mean I have to wait????? Hoomans!  Can't live with them, can't live without them...

LOVE YOUR PET DAY

One of our favorite companies out there is having a "LOVE YOUR PET DAY". ABOUT TIME!  Grand idea, no?

Yes, DO LOVE YOUR PET.
I am ever so LOVABLE!

I am finagling momma  into making these today....

Look, I love parmiggiano. I am a Bolognese! It's in my DNA, it is my BIRTH RIGHT! Prosciutto, parmiggiano, tagliatelle, and balsamico are from my people! I have agreed to "moderate" how much I eat, but I wanna eat!

Ehmmm, momma you have to made enough for the new  Cousin.- what's his name... ehmm Cooper CAT that's it....so... double the recipe ok? But only give him 1/5... He is an American gray... hot dogs are more his speed.... 'nuff said.

Re- printed with permission

Mommmmmmmmaaaa you can "rif on this recipe" next time.  Today make them as written. [The woman has a way of sneaking in stuff like tofu and zucchini....'ugh"

So... ehmm.... I have to deal with this... ehmmm

I am not a breedist.
[Welllll, maybe I am... a little]

BUT
Uncle Phil went out and got himself a ...
[Holy woof I have to say it OUT LOUD]

CAT!!!
Yuh. CAT, you read it correctly.

Yes, he is one of those. CAT person.
He got a rescued CAT from a shelter.

So, now I have a CAT cousin named COOPER.

I am officially welcoming Cooper to the family. Wendy is not "thrilled" with any of this.

JD wants to sniff him out and the general consensus is
JUDGEMENT RESERVED until we sniff him out.
Uncle Phil, you better tell this newbie all about us... teach the boy some respect, you know what I mean?

Does he have yellow eyes? Woa.

Kody

Dearest Kody,
12 years ago today you crossed that Rainbow Bridge.  We are now here with the momma and the daddy. We know you are still around because momma talks about you all the time. "Gentleman Kody".  You left us pretty big paw print to fill and filling them is a full time job for the three of us.

We do have to thank you because you made our pawrents better pawrents. You educated them, you nurtured them and you raised them to be Bichon advocates.  Thank you for that.

Today momma is blue, she will be very quiet [ I know, right?] and at some point she will have a good cry. She loves you and that love is not gone. Everyone loves you and everyone misses you.

Could you do us a favor? Can you turn off the vacuum cleaner and let her know that you are here still?

We think of you as our older brother, hope you see us as your legacy.

amore, AMORE!

Puters, glitches, witches and such and Valentines

POSTED ON FRIDAY... I was THOUGHTLESS on Thursday!

Soooooo, sometimes I think that the nano dudes inside my puter have a drinking problem. It's either that or they do not like automatic updates which cause hiccups. and  hiccdowns .  [It's a word, I just made it up- language evolves, so it is a word.] It's either nano dudes' fault or witches caused glitches.  Anyway, after restarts and threats from momma [she tells the machine that she has the power to unplug it... what a threat! She says things like, I can cut off your juice. Aha.  She talks to machines... and she names them.. nuff said Ask auntie Robin about the Hagador...{inside joke}] this morning Java updated itself and all seems to be running.

I missed Thoughtless Thursday, so I am linking up today, better late than nevah. And to be honest I have been busily working and far from thoughtless.  But,  for the record, let's talk about the EFELANT in the room.

THE WEATHER.  Seriously. I mean, really????  I had to check my zip code three times. I went out there yesterday to tinkle and I should have borrowed momma's martuni glass because I swear I heard ice cubes clicking out of me.

The upside of the cold snap was that the dad was home.

The other consequence of THE WEATHER is the distinct lack of walks. Momma is an African Violet. She does not do well in the cold. I am talking total wilt and once cold, she has zip recovery ability.  She can layer more rags on herself than a Salvation Army bin and still be icy cold.  And while her boots were made for the Arctic cold, very obviously they were not made for one African Violet.  And... when she is cold she over dresses us. Hellllooooo I was born with a fur coat. I do not need "layers"  And I can't wear boots and walk. And... ehmm healing toe here, NO BOOTS.
But let's face it, I look killah in my faux fur:

So that's the wrap for yesterday, today I am doing the Valentine's Day theng.
In this house, that means that I am stalking , chasing JD to give him kisses.  Like this:

He is a boy. He is just about clueless when it comes to "romance". I take the lead.  You know how that goes, right?

Who are you chasing for kisses?
And why don't they use mistletoe on Valentine's day?  It would be so much easier to make it a "ritual", no? Logic would dictate that that kissing tradition would hold true all year long.  But hey, hoomans and logic... are rarely thought to go together.

HAPPY VALENTINES' DAY!

dancing with JOY.... Suzie got adopted!

Here is an update on Suzie:

"she is doing great - learning new tricks daily and has become more adjusted to my schedule. She loves the work place and has gotten to know 2 dogs that she is very friendly with.  They play and she is wonderful with them - it still surprises me when I think about what you said about her being aggressive because she has shown no signs of aggression around these 2 dogs.  But anyway she is doing great .  She eats wonderful and loves to cuddle at night - sleeps right beside me with her head on the ex tra pillow and stays there most of the night.  What a great gift she is".

Could we ask for more than this for our babies??

Suzie  congrats .  So glad you took my advice. :) a loving dog controls her hooman better than a growly one.

Wooooohoooooo see you at the Bash.

Nop, not saying YES to THIS dress

I am just NOT feeling it.
It does not have enough bling.
It's too puffy. Too traditional.
I am looking more for the WOW factor. Something more sleek, more elegant, less prom-ish.
And ob... I must have a TIARA.

Less dog COSTUME and more high fashion.

Maybe I should ring David Tutera.  Or maybe I should ask Rachel Zoe to design something for moi. Wait, I know, I should really ask Austin Scarlett to design my gown. Everybody is doing Wang or Monique Lhuillier

I am just not THAT girl.  I am more avant guarde.  You know... Maybe Alberta Ferretti. No not Pnina Tornai.

Well... my search continues...

You didn't know I was in the market for a wedding dress?
Ahhh, neither did JD.

He does now.

No way. I am NOT going out there! Black and White Sunday

I think Hitchcock was out in my back yard. It is filled with angry looking, loud, nasty black birds..

Like anyone in their right mind would want to tinkle with this kind of audience.  I have heard of birds eating pretty white fluffy dogs and I am not going to be a statistic.

It does not look any better in color, does it?  Momma, I am injured already, get the pad ready, I am NOT going out there.

This is NOT going to HAPPEN to ME:

I am broken, sort of...

Sigh.  It is official. I am limping. My left back paw is painful. Momma went nutty yesterday when she saw me limp, and off I went to see my Dogtor. I like Dr. Jerry, but I like him when he is NOT at his clinic.  I like him best at Bark in the Park, at a party, at the Bash.... ANYWHERE, but at work. So when momma grabbed me, and only me, and did not invite me to a ride as she usually does, I knew something was up.

Look, I am not afraid to admit it.  I got the shakes as soon as I got there. My little heart was thumping like a crazed drummer. I was fearing the needles.. and the butt thing.  You know... THAT butt thing?  That thermometer thing. I HATE that.

Well, the good news is, I did not get either of those. I did get  X-rays. I am now "nucular"? Momma said no.
I have no problems with my back, my knees, my hips.... seriously someone should have asked me. I have the best hips in town!  Ask JD I can out sachay` anyone!
The bad news is... I have a sprain in my toesie, dang it.  The sucker hurts.

So... the dogtor said I need to take it easy until I heal.  And it will be a slow heal... 4-6 weeks!
Translate that to:

"Oh, sit me in the softest seat,
Quick, a cushion for my feet.
Do for me, buy for me, lift me, carry me..."

Yuh, I am a Sadie, and if only JD would make an  married lady then Funny Girl would be a total fit for my life.

But noooooooooooooooooooooooooo, he is too macho for that!

Life has handed me a small lemon.  I plan on making a few gallons of lemonade out of that.
I am not stupid.
I am going to work this angle while I can.

Practicing my ouchie face, you should see how momma reacts.  It is as if someone is squeezing the life out of her heart.  She loves me.
I love that
