So what's the thing with bunnies and Easter? Really? I am confused. We have one of those wild bunnies that lives in my garden and routinely pilfers momma's lettuces and stuff. JD hates him more than anything. I would like to get close enough to smell him up and really get a good look at him. But the thing has no manners. It comes into MY yard, MY garden, steals MY momma's lettuces, and then runs... No thank you, no introductions, no manners. I suppose asking from manners from a thief is ... crazy.
And yet you 2leggeds picked a bunny [a thief, intruder] to symbolize Easter??
Why not a beautiful Bichon? We are soft, we are pretty, we DON'T steal lettuce..
Where is the logic? The real question is, is "our" bunny thief different from all other bunnies, or is he the same? And what is the Easter/egg association? Bunnies do not lay eggs. So, what gives?
I did some reading and found out that Cadbury did not invent the Easter bunny.
Interesting. The Bunny was a symbol that originated with the pagan festival of Eastre. The goddess, Eastre, was worshipped by the Anglo-Saxons through her earthly symbol, the rabbit. [Remember my post about 2leggeds and their constant usage of symbols and statues, and look alikes....] German immigrants brought the bunny tradition to America and combined it with the traditional spring celebration of egg exchange which is rooted in pre Christian spring celebrations. Wow.
You do it because someone else did it before you. Hmmm.
You 2leggeds sure carry on lots of traditions... But then again... we sort of do the same thing. Let's say that circling the bed three times before settling in is a "tradition" for my species. And let's say that blitzing is a Bichon tradition...
Hey I did not want us to feel left out.
If you are reading this Backyard Bunny, listen, please don't eat momma's mesclun. She gets soooo mad. Please leave her strawberries and tomatoes alone. Easy to tell if it belongs to momma. She puts her "growy things" in pots. Eat whatever is NOT potted.

Silvie, I agree ... these bunny traditions are strange to us Bichons. But we play along. We know what's what. Yes, we have our Bichon traditions like Blitzing and circling around on the bed before settling in. But like you said, best to keep the peace!
hmm, bunny traditions. . . we don't seem to do that much here. But I saw our duckies again this morning -- mama says it looks like maybe there will be some little duckies visiting soon -- how could mama know that? I don't think we get bunnies in our backyard -- just evil kitties and an occasional possum or racoon or squirrel. I HATE squirrels and evil kitties.
