Tasty Tuesday.... Holiday noshing for US!

Momma has been phumphing with her recipes.

We... accidentally on purpose have been "floating" this recipe to the top of her pile. Over and over...

She shuffles it back in and... magically it finds its way on top.

Getting her a clue phone this year for Hanukkah.... woman, you are killing me.

Why are we working so hard to get her to make these?

Because it is a recipe for us and these treats are delicious., low cal and easy to make

You know how around this time of the year, the hoomans are cookie exchanging, baking, noshing, and generally engaging in woofing down foods at a rate that they would never allow us to.  Funny how that word DIET keeps coming up only when it pertains to us. Kettle.. this is Pot... ehm ehm...ehm...

So, would it kill you momma, to have safe treats for us on hand so that occasionally we can get into the spirit of the season without having to feel deprived and without you overflowing with guilt. [Oy guilt. The only think mooma does not feel guilty about is saying no. No flows out of her mouth with ease.  I think she has been stuck in her terrible twos for like a hundred years which is way more than 7! Ask daddy, momma is the queen of NO!]

Look, it is an easy recipe. Just do it!

Bake or microwave a large sweet potato. [6 minutes in the microwave will give you a cooked large sweet potato]  Mash it.

Food process about 3 cups of oat flakes.[not instant!]  You might need more. Your goal is to make  2 /2 cups ground oatmeal flakes- You want a fine grind and all you need to do is pulse the food processor to achieve this.

 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce

 2 eggs

 3 TBS  of coconut oil

 2 TBSP honey

Cinnamon if you are allowed [JD is not]

Vanilla- 1 Tsp

Mix everything and let IT SIT IN THE FRIDGE FOR AT LEAST 1 HR.

Oat flour made this way takes a long time to hydrate that is why it needs to sit!

Momma, we like the sticks make with this dough.  Some people like rolling and cutting shapes, We like sticks!

Roll out "bread sticks". Bake them at 350 for 25 minutes. We like them hard and crunchy.

Come on momma, START the recipe!

I want to sniff delicious

It is TASTY Tuesday.

They needed brain scans of dogs... why?????

So, momma was reading this article to the daddy.
She does that when she wants to drive a point "home".  Not sure what her point was, I mean daddy gets us. He really gets us. But something prompted her to do it, so we all listened.
Can I preface my comments with one statement?
Hellllloooo calling Captain Obvious.....you are all allocating funds to study the obvious????

I will never get some Hoomans!  If you have questions about what we are thinking, JUST ASK.
If you are not dog fluent get  hold of auntie Robin  at TBFR, or get a hold of momma, or auntie Janet or auntie Crissie, or auntie Kathy, or uncle Bob... heyyy... I could give you a full list, just call me!

You could allocate the money you save toward something .... needed like no kill shelters!  I am just saying.

Here is the article:
http://brainmysteries.com/brain-scans-reveal-dogs-really-think-us/

Momma did not give us an opportunity to make comments when she was reading this, so I am sharing my thoughts here.  No, we will not discuss what JD said because that potty mouthed boy had some very  ehmmmm choice words. And he cited another article to justify his usage of such language http://www.everydayhealth.com/pain-management-pictures/6-surprising-ways-to-cope-with-pain.aspx... but that's a different post.

So, the articled stated that:
" It turns out that dogs rely on humans more than they do their own kind for affection, protection and everything in between."
DUHHHHHH. To quote GAGA- I was born this way!  It is my genetic evolution. I am the result of thousand of years of breeding. You think this cuteness just happens?  I am fluffly, cute, soft, and smell like a cupcake because I was bred to be pleasing to you so we can share affection and protection and everything in between!

Don't you just want to hold me????

"The scientists found that dog owners’ aroma actually sparked activation in the “reward center” of their brains, called the caudate nucleus. Of all the wafting smells to take in, dogs actually prioritized the hint of humans over anything or anyone else."
Sooooo, I am basically hopelessly addicted to you? Oh. And here I thought I was addicted to Capricci.

"Researchers found that happy sounds in particular light up the auditory cortex in both species. This commonality speaks to the uniquely strong communication system underlying the dog-human bond.
In short: Dogs don’t just seem to pick up on our subtle mood changes — they are actually physically wired to pick up on them."

Ok, This comment is for my DD [Daddy dearest]... I bet right about now you wish you had some dog genes in you! Snicker snicker snicker... Would make life easier if you could only have a built in clue phone...Oh Adammm it would take more than a few genes....But you are tuned to MOI, so all is well.

" According to Andics, dogs interact with their human caregivers in the same way babies do their parents. When dogs are scared or worried, they run to their owners, just as distressed toddlers make a beeline for their parents. This is in stark contrast to other domesticated animals: Petrified cats, as well as horses, will run away."
The Wendy proved all this at the eye dr.  Passed over the daddy, the Dowi... straight into momma's arms. That is NORMAL.  MOMMA is MOMMA. I am confused as to why that thought this was newsworthy... DUHHHH. As far as cats... they are CATS!

"Dogs are also the only non-primate animal to look people in the eyes."
First of all, you communicate well through your eyes. Second... you all freak out if we try and sniff your butt.

Now, momma, how about a quick belly scratch before the chores of the day steal you from me????

It is MONDAYYYY and I am on Hanukkah countdown.

Black and White Sunday- who ordered winter?

Heyyyyyyy whoever ordered the winter.... IT IS HERE!
We got rain and wind and chilly.
I don't like any of those!

Next time you decide to order something, will you please consult with me?

I am far more experienced in the shopping arts and I can think of fifty bizillion things I like way better than winter!

Amateurs should never be allowed to shop.

Momma and I agree. The only place winter belongs is on a postcard.

Now, while the momma gets our breakfast ready, and puts a huge pot of soup on [hey you ordered
the winter, soup is obligatory now!] JD and I will find ways to spend some quality time.

I must admit snuggling in was ultra this morning.
I love being in bed all warm and toasty.
I love getting morning kisses from momma and the daddy.

And I love feeling all melty.  IT is IS a word!
It is when you feel all relaxed and completely surrender to the moment.
Like a melty cheese sandwich.

Apparently hoomans have a hard time getting melty. It requires some sort of liquor or something.
Pity.

Hey, I have an idea. Grab your hooman, snuggle them up and see of you can reach their melting point.

We have a plan!

Not open for discussion MOMMA!
WE da fluffies have woffed.

You have been draggin your tush. You are not fun anymore. You work and work and work and work.
Cleaning up is NOT remotely fun.

Today is Saturday. This day belongs to us.
Daddy has come up with a stellar idea and we are agreeing. We are going out. We are dragging you out, kicking and screaming if need be. [Now that would be entertaining!]

Oh, you are coming quietly?
It's about time.

Yes, maybe we can blog from the road....

Now let's go. Details details, never you mind where we are going.  Just focus on the going!

Kip, Uncle Bob, their gotcha day versary.... and now...

It was 4 years old today that Kip decided to adopt me when I went to Tidewater Bichon Frise Rescue to adopt a Bichon. Robin had picked Kip out for me over the other pups they had based on my application. Kip wouldn't have a thing to do with me until I was getting ready to leave and then he decided I was OK. He sure has changed my life and Kip adopting me was the best thing that ever happened to me. He brought me close to lots of wonderful people and pups I love this little boy.

And now, as Paul Harvey used to say...For the REST of the story:

Dear Uncle Bob,
You know Hooooomans.
They think they know everything.

Momma  and auntie Robin always think they have ideas. While auntie Robin thought that Kip would be a good match with you, [how she knew I am not sure... but momma says auntie Robin has "doggy divination". Have no clue, ask her directly, to date I have no reasonable understanding of that...]

When momma  met Kip she was sure as fire that the "perfect" adopter for Kip would be a lady.
A woman.
A female type. She really doubted that this was a match. [Yuh, I smirk when I think of this, she was WRONGGGGG.... rare, but a documented occurrence and one I can pull out of my hat when needed]

In her head, momma  said little boys bond fast to "mommas".
AHA.

I view this as a somewhat sexist prejudice, but obviously it is something that can be easily overcome.

JD, the Wendy and I all had talked to Kip. Kip was not really sure what he wanted. We told him that he had to do three things: 1. sniff out his person. 2. stick to his choice. 3. trust his instincts.

When Kip met uncle Bob, he had to step back and assess him. Never mind that TBFR  had already evaluated uncle Bob. [Sometimes we think the FBI should get pointers from TBFR  on interviewing and evaluating people....]. Kip had to feel that this person could be HIS person and that this person would take care of him and would be worthy of his unconditional trust and love,   That takes time.

The Wendy reminded Kip that TBFR  would not disappear, and if things did not work out he would be safe.

Me, I told Kip to trust his intuition.

JD the pragmatist told Kip. "You got nothing to lose. Go for it"

And with a bit of trepidation, Kip took that leap of faith.

Well, the rest is history. Kip you did a fab job. Look at what you accomplished! And now you have Fiona, and Marie and Toby, and Vanna!!!!!  And soon... soon you will be a groomsman and the Brady Bunch of Bichons  will be official!

Congrats. Really congrats.  Kip, not only did you turn your dad into YOUR dad, but you turned him into a perfect "family" dad to many many dogs. That is AMAZING!

Licks, wags and play bows to you Kip.  HAPPY GOTCHA DAY!

love
